 AIA STATEMENT ON NFIP EXTENSION

WASHINGTON, DC, July 1, 2010 - Leigh Ann Pusey, president and CEO of the American Insurance Association (AIA), issued a statement today on Congress’s decision to extend the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).  The Senate passed H.R 5569 late last night by unanimous consent, extending the NFIP through September 30, 2010.  The legislation will now go to the president for his signature.

Mr. Pusey’s statement is below:

"We're pleased this program has been extended, even if it's for a short time.  Between now and September, Congress must pass a long-term extension. For the many homeowners and businesses that rely on this program, I'm sure news of the extension is welcomed especially during this time of year when floods are prevalent.  We look forward to the President's signature so those Americans living in limbo can have some peace of mind and new policies or renewals can be put in place."
