Celebrating 150 Years of AIA
This year, the American Insurance Association (AIA) is celebrating its 150th anniversary. It is a time to commemorate our association, honor its rich history, and recognize the accomplishments that have marked our first 15 decades. While much has changed since 1866, the insurance business, at its core, remains the same, and AIA has always been at the heart of the innovation and leadership that shaped the industry and helped insurers serve their customers. This rich history and tradition of leadership will continue to shape the industry for the next century and beyond.
We hope you will join us in celebrating this milestone.
Remembering Our History
AIA, formerly the National Board of Fire Underwriters (NFBU), was established in 1866 with the purpose of creating consistency within the fire insurance industry throughout the country. In 1964, after almost a century of service to the industry, the NFBU joined forces with the original AIA and the Association of Casualty and Surety Companies, to form the American Insurance Association of today.
AIA will recognize the 150th anniversary throughout the year with celebrations with members, staff and the industry. We are proud to celebrate the past, present and future of our organization.
Highlighting our Accomplishments
From the creation of National Building Codes to contributions to auto and highway safety and enactment of TRIA, AIA has had many notable achievements throughout the years. The association will mark its Sesquicentennial anniversary with several commemorative initiatives throughout 2016 including an interactive timeline tracing 150 years of association history and monthly features that will highlight our contribution to industry advancements throughout the years.
