Katherine Pettibone Vice President, State Affairs - Western Region Katherine Pettibone serves as vice president for state affairs, Western region for the American Insurance Association. This includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. Ms. Pettibone’s responsibilities include working to advance the public policy interests of AIA’s member companies in the legislative and regulatory arenas. She works out of AIA’s regional office in Sacramento, California. Previously, Ms. Pettibone was the Legislative Director and Lobbyist for the Civil Justice Association of California. She has been appointed by Governor Jerry Brown as a Commissioner of the California Boating and Waterways Commission and prior to that served as a Senior Legislative Analyst in Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's Office of Planning and Research. Prior to her legal career, she was a professional athlete competing in multiple America's Cup and Around the World races. An attorney authorized to practice law in both California and Washington D.C., she has also practiced sports and contract law. Ms. Pettibone is a graduate of the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Miami, where she took a leave of absence to compete in the 1995 America’s Cup as a member of the first all-women’s racing team.
