Insurers and consumers have a longstanding partnership in working together toward increased safety for our nation's roadways. Fewer traffic accidents mean fewer insurance claims which directly translates into lower-cost insurance premiums for consumers.
With that interest in mind, insurance providers have underwritten extensive, world-class research examining vehicle design, roadway engineering, and driver behavior. Insurers have also helped lead the way in lobbying for primary seat belt laws, graduated driver licensing, strict drunk driving laws and penalties, and use of red light enforcement cameras.
In addition to fighting to keep driving safe, insurance providers have worked to rid the claims system of fraud. Consumers are rightly cost-conscious when it comes to the premiums they pay for auto insurance coverage. Unfortunately, the cost of their coverage is often kept unnecessarily high because of fictitious and exaggerated claims.
The AIA is working to eliminate auto insurance fraud. Many state governments have joined consumers and insurers in addressing this problem, maintaining the integrity of the claims system and protecting the ability of seriously injured drivers to seek due compensations.
