PHILADELPHIA, PA -- This weekend, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Cybersecurity Working Group released a 6th draft of their data security model legislation.

A statement from Angela Gleason, AIA's senior counsel, follows:

“The American Insurance Association appreciates the Cybersecurity (EX) Working Group’s collaborative process to develop a data security model law.  We have come a long way since the inception of this process and appreciate the Working Group’s willingness to address some significant issues that industry has raised. Fundamentally, the model creates a risk-based foundation.  For this reason and due to the impending 2018 legislative sessions, we support moving forward with the adoption of this model.  We look forward to working with individual commissioners to enact legislation based on this model in order to provide for a uniform set of rules for data security.”
