From a $2.59 lawsuit to arrests and even a feature story on the A&E series, “American Takedown,” Floridians are all too familiar with the stories of “personal injury protection” (PIP) or “no fault” auto insurance abuse. In addition to the honor of being home to these outrageous examples of fraud, Floridians also have the privilege of paying for them. How did we get to a place where $10,000 of coverage is rife with abuse, litigation takes place over as little as $2.59, and costs too much for consumers? It’s time for a change.
