National Flood Insurance Program

Flooding remains the most common natural disaster in the United States.  Recent events remind us that communities all across the United States remain vulnerable to severe flooding.  Whether the flooding is caused by coastal storms, rising rivers, or comes in form of a flash flood property owners should protect themselves against the damages that flooding causes.

Today, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is the primary flood insurer for homeowners across the United States.  As Congress prepares to reauthorize the NFIP, policy makers and stakeholders are exploring options to improve and reform the NFIP and foster the development of a private flood insurance market.  AIA is playing a leading role in the development of solutions to address the risks associated with flooding, save lives, protect property, and reduce taxpayer exposure.
