Flooding is the most common natural disaster in the United States. Flood insurance plays a critical role in managing the risks associated with flooding and assisting in the recovery process for homeowners, businesses, and communities after a flood. Today, the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is the primary flood insurer for homeowners across the country. As Congress prepares to reauthorize the NFIP, AIA is leading discussions among policymakers and key stakeholders to improve the program as well as expand appropriate private sector involvement to incentivize fiscal discipline, open up new capital streams, and broaden risk pools.
